DOOR: WRITER WITH NO SPELLING

Speaking of dreams, one of mine was to write at least one book. The purpose of it was to give me a purpose in life, something that would symbolize a little seed of mine in this world, a footprint on the sands of time. Perhaps something pretentious. Perhaps a pretext to perpetuate myself when I was no more than dust and shadow. In this journey of letters and forms, I have tried to seek excellence, to feel proud of myself for a job well done. However, I have also learned by trial and error that, in spite of my dedication, to make mistakes would be that stamp that, as a human, I would carry in everything I did. As Agent Smith said in The Matrix, “it is inevitable.” Why does it hurt so much to make a mistake? In my case, I do feel pain. It's like when you get your heart broken, you feel something tearing inside you, although your body remains intact. I have even gone through all the stages of grief. Two months ago, when I visited my doctor for a check-up, he asked me, How is your p...

ENVY, THE EIGHTH PASSENGER

Image
By Ángela López Singing is one of the skills I have most admired. Listening to Luciano Pavarotti, Freddie Mercury or Pedro Infante, is like touching a little piece of heaven in the stormiest moments.   Without being a proper Whitney Houston, I must confess that my off-tune sounds glorious in the shower.   Fortunately, there are other talents and different intelligences (Howard Gardner - Multiple Intelligences).   So, I started researching how I could improve both "spatial-visual" and "linguistic-verbal" intelligence.   However, despite my advances, the comparison exploded like an erupting volcano. Repeatedly, I confronted my work with that of others.   Generally, I used to feel that theirs was far superior to mine, and that my efforts were in vain, as I would never produce anything with characteristics of excellence. In a way, I was showing glimpses of a rather limiting and unpleasant feeling: envy . It should be noted that, envy or that feeling of sadness b...

YOU BELIEVE IT, YOU CREATE IT

Since I was a child I have felt a great fascination for the literary world, I remember my first book, none other than The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain, and very quickly I traveled through countless stories where the letters came to life under different faces. Thanks to the power of written words I enjoyed the imagination of Miguel de Cervantes, Victor Hugo or Robert Louis Stevenson.  I was also surprised by the fact that these works managed to break the barriers of time, culture and distance to reach the heart of a little Colombian girl who took refuge in libraries to dream with her eyes wide open.  All these authors that I have had the privilege of reading have one thing in common: They trusted what they wrote .  Then, a question comes to my mind, how much do we believe in our abilities? For example, if you think you make delicious desserts, have you allowed others to enjoy your sweet creations? Or have you simply not done so because you are afraid ...

Door: YOUR MENTAL WINGS

When I was seven years old, I made my first kite, a very fun experience. But the really exciting thing was learning how to fly it. It was an arduous task, as what appeared to be literally "a child's play” ... in reality, for me, it became "a child’s challenge.” After an afternoon of numerous failed attempts, I finally got it... it was a feeling of triumph and wonder, on the one hand, I felt proud of not giving up and on the other hand, it seemed incredible to me that something built with fragile materials was not destroyed by the powerful wind. Eventually I was discovering that, like this kite, great results can be obtained when we know how to use every circumstance as a source of leverage. We have control on ourselves, but we don't have it on that which is not part of us. Everything what is "out," plays a special role, that is why your true talent lies in forming strategic alliances and not useless wars. Freedom! An ideal by which countless fights h...

Door: INHALE DISCIPLINE, EXHALE WEAKNESS

"Do not only read your story, rewrite it." This is a sentence that I wrote long ago. Its origin comes from my own life, when I realized that if I wanted to be the champion of my own race, then I had to decide to build my own track, follow it and win it. No one else would do it for me! Most importantly, I discovered that the person who prevented me from competing and emerging victorious was I . So is! I myself, self-sabotaged using outdated or erroneous concepts that limited my ability to run. For example, I longed to be disciplined, but I classified such action in the "impossible" category, by doing this, my mind would associate pain with the idea of effort and continuous work which self-discipline involves. So, I started to look for excuses that support my belief of "I can't." So, I came to the following conclusion: "To rewrite my history, the first thing to do is unlearn my limiting beliefs." From there, I made the decision to c...
